FIFA U20 Women's WC qualifiers: Uganda coach Sheryl Botes confident after slim defeat in Ghana

Uganda U20 women’s coach, Sheryl Botes says the East Africans badly want to qualify for the World Cup after their narrow defeat to the Black Princesses of Ghana in Accra.

The Black Princesses had to battle from a goal down to beat the Queen Cranes 2-1 ahead of the second leg in Kampala.

Agnes Nabukenya gave the visitors the lead before half time but Priscilla Mensah responded after the break, and Latifa Abesik netted the winner with five minutes remaining.

“Well, I think it’s something they have never experienced before. I think this will be the greatest if not the best opportunity for the girls to qualify for the World Cup. I think Ghana has had it nine times and I believe there is always a first time,” said Sheryl Botes.

“If they want it bad enough which I thought today they wanted it bad enough. I’m expecting the same disciple, the same fighting spirit in the second league because this is something they all really badly want. At the end it’s all going to come down to the last leg,” she added.

The Black Princesses are hoping to make a tenth appearance at the U20 Women’s World Cup.
